Regenerative Agriculture and Sustainability Strategy

I bring deep subject-matter expertise in regenerative agriculture to help organizations design programs that are both ambitious and feasible. That means translating research into real-world application, advising on climate-smart and sustainability-focused initiatives, and distilling complex technical information into insight you can actually act on.

Basil’s Harvest

Services: Program Coordination, Stakeholder Engagement, Grant Reporting, Communications

The Challenge

Basil’s Harvest is developing a regional Farm-to-Military procurement model connecting local farms with National Guard installations. Expanding the initiative required someone who could coordinate communications, stakeholder engagement, and operational planning across multiple states.

The Work

I work as a consultant woven into day-to-day business supporting program coordination, communications materials, grant reporting, procurement tools, stakeholder outreach, and cross-state collaboration.

The Impact

The initiative continues to expand, with my services providing the communications and operational infrastructure needed to support implementation across four states with the National Guard as the institutional partner.

Case Study I:
Hatching a sustainability strategy

Role: Director of Sustainability and Communications (started as Project Manager in 2019)
Services: Federal Grant Writing, Management, Regenerative Ag Strategy

The Challenge

A national pasture-raised brand with a wide farmer network that spans states needed a regenerative agriculture and sustainability communications program, credible enough to move consumers, retailers, policy audiences alike. This was a key focus in addition to ambitious major federal funding to advance climate-smart practices across its supply chain.

The Work

I led the sustainability and communications strategy needed across the organization, from web development for the brand’s sustainability page to nitty-gritty impact reports; boosting visibility through retail and brand partnerships, as well as policy engagement. Working directly with farmers on the ground, I took complex on-farm regenerative practices and turned them into competitive proposals for two major USDA grant programs. Owning leadership of the project, I built out internal teams to match the growing scope of the work, writing job descriptions and completing the full cycle of interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring three new hires along the way.

The Impact

Through this federal grant strategy, I helped secure over $2.3 million in funding, including $2,000,000 from a USDA Climate-Smart Commodities program and $340,000 from a USDA Conservation Innovation Grant. Paired with a sustainability communications program carefully crafted to last, this work positioned the brand as a credible, forward-facing voice in the world of regenerative agriculture. And, I built the infrastructure and team to keep that momentum going.

The Challenge

Another well-established pasture-raised egg brand needed a rigorous, evidence-based case study to thoroughly understand the return on investment of regenerative agricultural practices across its farm network. The goal was to build an internal business case that could guide investment decisions, support farmer adoption, and position the company as a first mover in documenting regenerative practices at commercial scale in the U.S. egg industry.

The Work

Working with a time restraint of six weeks, I led research and writing across three distinct phases; foundations, literature review and stakeholder interviews — with drafting and refinement, of course. This meant synthesizing existing flock performance data and farmer survey responses into a data intake memo, building out an interview plan, and then leading this outreach into EU/UK and U.S. stakeholders with direct experience in commercial regenerative egg production along with conducting literature reviews spanning peer reviewed research, internatinal commercial case studies, and market data on regenerative agriculture economics.

From there, I built a business case framework mapping cost and benefit pathways across four core practice areas with ROI timelines — all of this was wrapped up in a clean final report with an executive summary, evidence-based practice analysis, stakeholder perspectives and network-wide recommendations.

The Impact

The research found that regenerative practices including canopy integration, cover cropping, composting, rotational grazing etc., show ROI timelines of six months to two years for initial returns, with compounding benefits over three to ten years. The proof points I gathered from the UK, with over 25 years of track record, validate feasibility at scale, and documented annnual gains of $24K per 64K hen flock from just canopy integration.

With the U.S. pasture-raised eggs industry lacking comparable documentation at a commercial scale, and a market projected to grow at an 18.7% CAGR through 2033, this work positioned this particular regenerative pasture-raised egg brand for a genuine first-mover advantage in an industry still trying to catch up.
